Festive time! Iphone 6 launched!! So is another new Samsung note!! Media flooded with all gaga. I am feeling mine 4S is outdated now. Has the time arrived to move on or is there still some life left in my old companion?
Never satisfied Human mind!!!The prime reason behind human-evolution this far, searching for that perfection that never exists. Yet we say- Impossible is nothing, rightly so this spirit in mind separates us for what we are today from the rest of the living beings of this world.
Be it a television, a computer, a mobile phone, a watch, a car, a music system, a camera- These are some examples of dreamt devices of yesteryears and are gifts of being at the modern era. These science-born gadgets have become indispensible part of our daily life. They are meant to be supportive to their best of ability to us in their own field of excellence. But today, they have much more dimensions attached to them than their initial meant.
All of our wishes start with NEED and once fulfilled, gradually find their way and become WANT. The bumpy CRT TV has to make way for super slim LCD/LED, so does a desktop computer to laptop, a Point & shoot film camera out shined by its quick digital sibling, a mobile phone-we all know how quickly their screen size, usability changed in no-time. Not too long back your favorite music track was available in form of audio cassette only. A 21st century borne could hardy seen a cassette let alone played. They could never imagine of a sweet relationship between a pencil and audio-cassette and this list goes on and on.
The said all above are due to big leap of technical advancement. A huge improvement in quality they brought to the table due to affordability and access to new technologies and their conversance and more efficient in the way they are being produced. Now, you are not required to purchase a separate camera or a walkman, your new mobile can play the dual role with its inbuilt 10 mega pixel camera and play music for you just at your finger touch. More to it, it is threatening the computer market, as probably you can now do almost everything what a pc or a laptop is capable of and still handy.
What I am trying to emphasize is beyond that while I said other dimensions are attached to our beloved gadgets. Manufacturing companies are well aware of our Human instinct. These market-intelligent guys have used them cleverly to address our weaknesses. Some more ways of relating to gadgets are>>>
- Symbol of status
- Gauging your purchasing power
- Displaying strength of your economic muscles.
- Showing your trendiness.
- Or….just the way you want to use it.
No prize for guessing what is right or wrong. All I can say is-We are all human. All that matter is how do we look at it.
But then yet again, it all boils down to need vs. want.
So next time you feel you are upgrading yourself. Think…. in which category you are……..just check the thin line between your NEED and WANT…….
BTW…Congrats to the new iphone6 owners!!! I am still finding some life in my old 4S though….(Just boosted it by injecting iOS 7.1 recently to delay the inevitable).
